Size has been a concern to society through a long time now, and when I say "concern to society", I don't mean Health problems, I mean " How do I look problems".
Through many years of my life( most of them), I have been overweight and it seems that my weight bothers other people. Yes! It happens and very frequently. Have you heard when people say: ¨Awww she or he has a pretty face but its a shame that she or he is (lets put it in Cain words) a little bit oversize¨ , well... That's my case.
Since I was a little girl, I always had an extra size compared to other girls. I have struggled with my weight for many years, and even though I have had some periods in my life that I have been "skinnier", it seems that it's never enough for society.
You will always have this particular Uncle, brother, friend, boyfriend, etc., including People that you don't know that will judge you just because of your weight etc... you will always find someone who will say " if you were skinnier, you would be prettier" and these questions come to my mind: should i lose weight to please society? Are we judgmental because a persons looks?
Latin American Culture it is very strict when it comes to size, since we were little kids we see this magazines and tv shows that will show the most beautiful people and how thin they are and they criticize all the people that are overweight. So, I wonder When it comes to sizes and to find a place in society, what's the IT size?
Not too many years ago, I asked my sister: "When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you feel pretty?". She said to me: "well, sometimes like everyone else, I don't feel that pretty". She asked me back: "do you feel that way?", I replied: "I always feel pretty" . The next day she told my mom about it and right after she told the story to my mom she said " she is never going to lose weight".
I asked to myself: Should i not feel pretty just because I am overweight or just because I don´t live up to someone elses expectations?
So, this is the bottom line: If you are confident by who you are as a person, it does not matter how you look. Really! It does NOT! You don´t have to live up to someone elses expectations, live up to YOURS!
When you start applying this in every aspect in which you have been judged, you will start to be happier and see things different.
